Will I feel a performance improvement with your timing advance sensor? What about my mileage?
You will definitely notice an immediate increase in torque from idle on up (about 5-20%, highest at idle), with a stock engine or a "chip" that does not alter injection timing (e.g. EDGE). This extra torque is most evident in manual transmission trucks, and automatics with low stall torque converters. In stock automatics the extra torque becomes most evident after torque converter lock-up.
If you use this sensor with a "chip" that advances timing, you risk over-advancing the timing resulting in knocking and reduced performance and engine life. For a list of user verified boxes click here.
Your fuel mileage will likely improve about 0.75-1.25 MPG (some users report in excess of 2 MPG empty, 1+ MPG heavy towing) depending on the fuel cetane, driving habits, etc. Your engine will run cooler also.
The cooler running engine has noticeably improved air conditioning performance due to less cycling of the compressor in hot weather, as brought to my attention by several users.
Based on some user reports, trucks that get especially bad mileage, such as 14-15 mpg empty, are brought back up to 18-19 mpg. This has to do with less soot being produced, which allows fouled-up injectors a chance to clean-up after a few hundred miles.
Is the muffler available in stainless steel? What about 5 inch in/out?
We believe aluminized will last as long as your truck's sheet-metal, but if enough requests are received we will offer a batch of stainless. We are making a list of interested people for an upcoming 5 inch version. Write us.
Just how quiet is your muffler?
When installed according to the supplied instructions, inside it's less than 58 dBA @ idle, 72 dBA @ full throttle. Outside it's 75 dBA @ idle 3 ft away directly facing the exhaust tip, 68 dBA at the rear tailgate. The common rail Cummins produces 75 dBA of "diesel clatter" 3 ft in front of the hood or the wheel well, so the exhaust is equal to the engine noise, but unlike the engine noise which is spread over a wide area, the exhaust noise only comes from the tailpipe, so it is only heard in close proximity to the exhaust. (You will not hear the exhaust from inside your house when your truck is idling outside.)
We guarantee no drone while towing with this muffler.
Does your muffler allow me to crank out more power from my "chip"?
The Silent Mightâ„¢ muffler has virtually no backpressure. This improves the throttle response and lowers your exhaust temperature allowing for more power to be produced at a safe exhaust temperature.
How long will it take to install the vibration eliminator kit?
It will take approximately one hour, depending on your mechanical skills. It includes large photographs guiding you step by step.
